Nurse

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is that time of year when the cool nights move in, the humidity and bugs and traffic move out, and the “ickies” come to school.  We are starting to see the fall colds, flu, and other bugs in our classrooms.

We are working on good hand washing, as well as covering coughs and sneezes, to help reduce the spread of germs that cause all these illnesses.  You can help by providing reminders at home as well. Research has shown that washing your hands for the length of time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song is most effective in removing bacteria from hands.  Hand washing should occur after using the bathroom, coughing or sneezing, blowing your nose, and before eating. Coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue also helps decrease the spread of germs.

Also, please be on the lookout for sniffles, nausea, fever, and rashes.  If your child is not feeling well, please consider keeping them home to rest and recuperate.  If you notice a rash that appears to be spreading or not going away, please consult with your child’s doctor before sending them back to school.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns give me a call.

Best Wishes,

Deb Talacko, BSN RN
