Dear Teachers,
We are beginning the spring selection process for the Gifted and Talented Program. The process
begins with a referral which can be received from a parent, teacher/ staff member, administrator or
student.. The window for submitting a referral in an academic area or for the arts program begins
Tuesday, May 8, 2018 and will close Friday, May 18, 2018. Please take this opportunity to refer any
child you feel has the potential to excel beyond their peers in the regular school program.
Academic Referral Form
VPA Referral Form
I am also looking for staff members interested in serving on the selection committee for
the academic program. The selection process will take place after school and staff members will be
paid for their time. Specifics for the selection process are as follows:
Selection Process:
Blind (no student name) consideration of the evidence by a district-wide selection committee made up of:
● GT Coordinator (orchestrates meeting, does not take part in decision-making)
● Teacher representatives (to include a mix of grade spans and schools)
● In the case of VPA, teacher representatives will include representatives from the Visual and Performing Arts
in all schools
The selection committee will rank order candidates for gifted and talented identification. The GT Coordinator and
Director of Curriculum will then review the rank order and identify the number of students that results in a total Gifted
& Talented caseload of 5% of the school population for academic/intellectual giftedness and 5% of the school
population for artistic giftedness for each school.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have at kirza@svrsu.org.
Thank you,
